SUBMITTED BY CUB SCOUT PACK #39

Over the course of four days, April  16-20, nine Cub Scouts from Cub Scout Pack #39, charted by Simpson Creek Baptist Church in Bridgeport were awarded the highest honor in Cub Scouting, The Arrow of Light Award.

The Arrow of Light awards were presented to the Scouts by Cubmaster Joseph Ritchie, Assistant Cubmaster/Den Leader Brian Randolph, Assistant Cubmaster/Den Leader Travis Miller and Den Chief Benjamin Gerhart.

The nine Scouts who received this prestigious award were Andrew Randolph, Gabriel Aguilar, Gabriel Miller, Grady DeLeurere,  Hunter Reid, Matthew Day, Parker Ziecina, Reid Haws, and Zane Davis.

These Scouts put forth a tremendous amount of time and effort along with the assistance of their parents, families and leaders of their den.

The Arrow of Light is both a rank and an award. It is the highest achievement in Cub Scouting, and the only Cub Scout Award that can still be worn once a scout enters ScoutsBSA. Adult leaders who earned the Arrow of Light Award may show their achievement by wearing a special square knot on their uniform.

The award design is a yellow arrow with a rising sun. There are seven rays in the sun that represent wisdom, courage, self-control, justice, faith, hope, and love. The symbolism of the award peaks to the heart of scouting – like an arrow, scouts travel a straight path. Achieving the award is not an end, but like a new day is just a beginning. The values represented by the sun are those that form a well-rounded person.
Other interpretations of the badge say that like the sun, Cub Scouts should be a light for those around them. Also, the seven rays of the sun represent the days of the week, and serves as a reminder that Scouts should do their best every day.

After receiving their Arrow of Light awards all nine Scouts from Pack #39, Den 1, continued their Scouting journey by crossing over into Boy Scout Troop #40, also chartered by Simpson Creek Baptist Church. The boys crossed a bridge from the Pack to the Troop, walking across 12 planks on the bridge, each labeled with one point of the Scout Law.  Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent.

On the other side of the bridge, these new Boy Scouts were presented with their Boy Scout Neckerchief and welcomed to the Troop by Scoutmaster Jason Hosaflook, Senior Patrol Leader Brady Hosaflook and the rest of the Boy Scouts of Troop #40.
At the conclusion of their crossover ceremony the boys hit the ground running by learning many of the basic Scout skills they will need on their path to Eagle Scout.

On behalf of all the Leaders of Pack 39 and Troop 40 we would like to congratulate the nine young men for their hard work and achievement and look forward to the great things they will do as they grow and mature as Boy Scouts of Troop #40.
