Officials Confirm Death of Individual at Cheat Lake; Victim was 37-Year-Old Male from State of Ohio

UPDATE: Monongalia County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched on July 4, 2022 at approximately 1:40 pm to the boat launch on Mont Chateau Road for a drowning at Cheat Lake.
The victim has been identified as Thomas Burt, 37 years of age from Martins Ferry, Ohio.
Assisting at the scene was the Morgantown City Fire Department, Cheat Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Morgantown Dive Team, West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and Mon EMS.
ORIGINAL: According to WDTV, Emergency response crews have recovered a body from Cheat Lake.
Search and rescue, fire and Monongalia County Sheriff units responded around 2 p.m. Monday to the area of Ices Ferry Bridge.
The identity of the person who was recovered from the lake has not been released.
