PHOTOS: Safe Sitter Course; Local Girls Become Informed on Important Childcare Issues

An attentive group of teen and preteen girls participated in today’s Safe Sitter training course offered by the City of Bridgeport.

City Clerk Andrea Kerr led the training session at Bridgeport Fire Department with Director of Emergency Services Laura Pysz assisting. Among other instructors was Bridgeport Fire Chief Bob Seccuro who conducted a CPR course. After his introductory instruction and demonstration, a question and answer session took place and all students were afforded a hands-on learning opportunity.

In addition to child and infant CPR, the students learned about choking rescue and various child care essentials, as well as how to handle behavior issues. The class participated in games, such as bingo, to drive the points home.

Students said they found the class to be fun and informative - and that what they learned helped them feel confident about responsible babysitting. Several said they found the segment on choking hazards to be particularly enlightening.

The Safe Sitter course debuted last summer and was brought back by popular demand. For more information, call Kerr at 304-842-8233.
