At 8:35 p.m. Friday, a Volkswagen Passat was demolished after it went off-road on Interstate 79. The accident took place at the 124 mile marker (Jerry Dove Drive.)

According to Bridgeport Police Officer Derek Stallman, a male driver fell asleep at the wheel. He was traveling northbound on I-79 when he dozed off, went onto the exit ramp and thereafter went completely off the roadway, hitting some large rocks.

There were no other passengers. The driver refused hospital transport and seemed to be without injury. No other vehicles were involved and there was no other damage, Stallman said.

The Passat was removed from the scene by Dan Riggs Towing. See additional photos at the link below.
