Paving by WVDOH and Infrastructure Work Currently in Play Near Slip Section on West Virginia Route 131

Motorists traveling along State Route 131 may want to plan on possible delays today and perhaps tomorrow as work is being done along two sections of the roadway.

The West Virginia Division of Highways is doing asphalt patch work along the roadway in the section near the entrance to the Bridgeport Recreation Complex. Flaggers were in both directions in an effort to facilitate the traffic. Although it could not be confirmed with the WVDOH, that work could be completed today.

Also, work is being done in the area of the slip between the Bridgeport Cemetery and the Route 131 entrance to the North Central West Virginia Airport. Flaggers were in place there from Citynet.

According to Assistant Bridgeport City Manager Jimmy Smith, Citynet is moving and replacing existing utility lines in the area impacted by the slip.

Smith said other utilities have been doing work in the area in question, including First Energy. A utility pole snapped last week in the slip area, further causing issues in a section of roadway that has been problematic since the slip formed many months ago.

How long the utility work will take place is unknown, but motorists should prepare to be delayed for a few minutes if traveling that roadway.
