At Monday night's Bridgeport City Council meeting, the latest class of Leadership Bridgeport was recognized and Mayor Bob Greer presented each member with a certificate indicating he or she had completed the program.

Recognized were Krista Arnold, Sarah Dodson, Annie Neely Kirkpatrick, Rosemary Grimm, Stephen McElroy, Jill Nussel, Doug Marquette, Donna Martino and Crystal Riley. Members not present were Jessie Liebig, Sarah McNeely and Megan Howard.

Marquette was thereafter appointed by Council to serve on the Bridgeport Development Authority for a term of three years.

City Clerk Andrea Kerr said the class recognized Monday night started in October and was held once per month thereafter.

“They basically go through every single city department and the department head talks to them about everything from staffing to budgeting and all the different projects they are working on within their departments. It’s fun, too, because we take them on tour portions of the city.”

The purpose of Leadership Bridgeport is two-fold, Kerr said.
“We want to be open and we want people to know a lot about how our city works because we think that’s important for our community to know,” she said. “And we also like to look to these people first as the next leaders in the community or to sit on some of our boards and commissions."
