Photos: "My Bike" Program Rolls into City with Bikes for Special Needs Kids

By Ben Queen on August 01, 2014 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

On Thursday, fifteen local disabled children were given the opportunity to have their own bikes thanks to the Variety Children’s Charity based in Pittsburgh. The “My Bike” program, which began in 2012, providing adaptive bikes to those who have a physical, mental, or sensory disability, which would prevent them from riding a traditional bike, made a stop in Bridgepor Thursday.

Lisa and Andy Lang spearheaded the local collection of funds that made these bike donations possible.  Each bike presented cost about $1800 to custom fit the child.  Special features are in place for the unique needs of the child, such as neck, head, leg and back support.
