Pick-Up Truck Strikes Taylor County Ambulance En Route to UHC

By Julie Perine on June 15, 2015 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

A two-vehicle accident on State Route 279 near the entrance to United Hospital Center resulted in the transfer of four individuals to UHC.

The accident occurred at 3:44 p.m. when a Chevy Silverado pick-up truck struck a Taylor County ambulance which was en route to UHC for a non-emergency transport.

The Silverado had been exiting White Oaks when the driver crossed both westbound and eastbound lanes of traffic, proceeded onto the grass hillside adjacent to United Hospital Center and Mountain State Medical Specialties, turned and crossed the median, striking the Taylor County ambulance. The patient in that ambulance, as well as the driver and attendant, were transported to UHC, as was the driver of the pick-up, who was unresponsive, according to Bridgeport Fire Captain Phil Hart. That patient was entrapped, but was quickly removed from the vehicle.

There were no life-threatening injuries. Making the transports were Bridgeport, Harrison County and Anmoore fire/emergency services departments. Also responding to the scene was Bridgeport Police and FBI. Several members of law enforcement were on scene, assisting with traffic.

The accident is under investigation.See more images at the gallery link below.
