Area law enforcement officers, fire and emergency units responded to two Friday evening accidents on Interstate 79.

At 5:52 p.m., Bridgeport Police, as well as Bridgeport Fire and EMS, were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the 121 mile marker.

“It was a two-vehicle rear-end type collision – a Toyota Rav4 and a Kia Forte,” said Bridgeport Police Officer Bart Sayers. “The driver of the Rav4 was transported to United Hospital Center with apparent minor injuries.”

The Rav4 did have airbag deployment, Sayers said. Both vehicles were towed due to damage. There was heavy traffic in the area, partially as a result of a 4:47 p.m. accident that happened just south of the 5:52 p.m. accident.

Although in close proximity, the earlier accident – which involved multiple vehicles - was in Clarksburg Police Department’s jurisdiction, Sayers said.

Responding to that accident - at the 119 mile marker - were Clarksburg Police, Clarksburg Fire Department, Harrison County EMS. A Harrison County EMS unit made one transport to UHC.
