Pratt & Whitney Bridgeport GM Announces Milestone of Three Years without "Lost Time Injury" at Plant

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on March 19, 2018 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

FROM PRATT & WHTINEY ENGINE SERVICES BRIDGEPORT GENERAL MANAGER JACQUES BLONDEAU

Three Years – 1,095 days – over 2,000,000 hours. That’s a long time and for a business like Pratt & Whitney Engine Services to go that long without a Lost Time Injury is an extraordinary accomplishment.

On Sunday, March 4, 2018 we did it, thanks to the outstanding and careful work of each and every one of our employees and contractors over the past three years. On behalf of the management team, please accept my thanks and appreciation for this remarkable achievement.  This milestone exemplifies the commitment that you have made towards an injury free environment.

This past year, your efforts have been critical in establishing a culture where every incident is truly seen as preventable.  However, and even more importantly, is that through your participation, you are helping to further define a way-of-life where every day we demonstrate that we actively care about, not only ourselves, but also the lives of our fellow workers. We have that expectation where everyone goes home safely and returns the next day.  That’s reasonable and should be the foundation in our quest to zero incidents.  Yet, we know that we need to continue to work and work hard, to achieve that level of performance.  Safety doesn’t get easier with age – it gets more difficult.  It is something that we must work at every day.

To celebrate this remarkable accomplishment, the PWES Management Team will prepare and serve a meal worthy of our success.  The date of the meal has yet to be finalized, but will be around the first of April so that we might enjoy the outdoor seating.

This is quite an achievement for our facility, one not equaled by many.  It reflects the commitment of the workers, supervisors and managers to maintain a workplace that is free from hazards and risks. I look forward to continuing our collaborative safety approach, and working together to reduce risks and incidents at PWES.  The journey ahead presents an opportunity for us to not only continue our stellar safety performance, but to build upon it going forward.
