RCB Institute to Sponsor Free Seminar Featuring 3D Printing, Industrial Laser Technologies

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on August 21, 2019 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI) will sponsor a free seminar Sept. 20 in Bridgeport featuring the latest 3D printing and industrial laser technologies.

Experts from TRUMPF, a worldwide technology leader in machine tools and lasers for manufacturing, will highlight how these technologies can be applied in various industrial sectors. Because of the large aerospace presence in north central West Virginia, the event will emphasize how this equipment and related processes can be used to innovate, lower production costs and reduce waste in that sector.

Attendees will learn about two 3D printing techniques: laser metal fusion and laser metal deposition, methods used to manufacture complex parts and for coating and repairing components. The afternoon presentation will feature industrial lasers for cutting, welding, marking and processing surfaces. Participants will have the opportunity to examine parts produced or modified using these advanced technologies and to ask questions.

“Industries across the spectrum, from aerospace to automotive and medical to consumer goods are adopting these emerging technologies,” said Jamie Cope, director of innovation at RCBI. “This event is a great opportunity for industry representatives in our region to learn how they might benefit as well.”

The Sept. 20 event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Robert C. Byrd National Aerospace Education Center (1050 E. Benedum Industrial Drive, Bridgeport). Lunch will be provided.

Because seating is limited, registration is required at www.rcbi.org/go/trumpf. For more information, contact RCBI’s Jamie Cope at jcope@rcbi.org or 304.781.1680.
