Radiologic Technology Program at United Hospital Center Earns Accreditation

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on March 03, 2022 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) has awarded programmatic accreditation to the Radiologic Technology Program at United Hospital Center (UHC).

The JRCERT is the only agency recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) for the accreditation of traditional and distance delivery educational programs in radiography, radiation therapy, magnetic resonance, and medical dosimetry. Specialized accreditation awarded by the JRCERT offers institutions, such as UHC, significant value by providing peer evaluation and by assuring the public of quality professional education in the radiologic sciences.

“The rigorous process to achieve the JRCERT accreditation recognizes UHC’s substantial compliance with the nationally established accreditation standards,” said Rosemary Trupo, R.T. (R) R.D.M.S., M.B.A., Education Coordinator/Program Director of the Radiologic Technology and Diagnostic Medical Sonography Programs at UHC.  “Receiving the JRCERT accreditation simply validates the program quality at UHC and our commitment to excellence.”

The continuing accreditation status of the program was considered at the February 22, 2022 meeting of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. The UHC program was evaluated according to the Standards for an Accredited Educational Program in Radiography (2021).

The program documents compliance with all relevant Standards; therefore, the JRCERT awards accreditation for a period of eight years. The maximum duration that may be awarded by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology in this category is eight years.

UHC offers a certificate program in Radiologic Technology for individuals interested in pursuing training in this field. The training period is 22.5 months and begins in August of each year. In addition to formal classes and laboratory practice, clinical experience in Radiologic Technology is provided under the guidance of a Clinical Coordinator, Clinical Preceptors, and staff technologists, all of whom are ARRT certified.

The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology Directors and staff congratulate UHC and the program faculty for achieving the maximum award of accreditation from the JRCERT.
