On October 24, ghosts and goblins will fill the streets.  If you haven’t bought your candy yet, don’t worry, it’s not trick or treat.  It’s actually Trick or Trot, a family-friendly 5K race sponsored by the GFWC Bridgeport Junior Woman’s Club. In it’s fourth year, the event draws hundreds of runners and raises thousands of dollars that will be used to fund projects in the local community.  Funds will also support the Elle Foundation, a Bridgeport-based charity which raises money and awareness for children with congenital heart defects.

 

The race will take place at 9 a.m., with the paved course starting at the Benedum Civic Center.  Costumes are highly encouraged, but not necessary.  At 8:45 a.m., a free Kids' Dash will take place and no registration is necessary for that event.  Children’s activities will be available for children aged two and up and runners are welcome to drop their kids off while they run.  This year, the Juniors are partnering with Jen Brazier, the only Spartan-certified coach in West Virginia, to offer children some Spartan-like obstacles to tackle.

 

Participants are encouraged to pre-register on TriStateRacer.com, using the keyword ‘Trick or Trot” for discounted race fees.  All those who register by October 14 will be entered into a drawing to win one of several sports-related prizes, including massage gift certificates and foam rollers.  Same-day registration will also be available beginning at 7:30a.m. in the basement of the Benedum Civic Center.  Pre-registration is $20. Race day registration will be $25 and kids 12 and under can participate for $10. The kids' dash is free to all participants and is easy enough for even the youngest runners.

 

Following the race, awards will be presented for male and females in the following age groups:  1-10, 11-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60+.  This year’s event has been improved by offering chip timing and prizes will be awarded for the top three overall male and female finishers.  There will also be prizes for the top male and female runner in each category and for the best costume in the race.
