Renovations of Langs' West Main Street Building Complete; New Business "About You" Monogram Shop to Occupy Lower Floor

Since early in the year, Andy and Lisa Lang have been renovating the West Main Street building which they purchased from the Curry estate. Formerly occupied by The Mustard Seed Primitive gift shop, the building is located next to the Lloyd Lang Bridge and Simpson Creek footbridge. The project hasn’t just been a quick facelift; it’s been a detailed refurbishing, including the addition of archways and a New Orleans-style balcony, as well as restoration of the original oak woodwork.

The finished product is ideal for Lisa Lang’s new business, which will open its doors just after the first of the year.
Named “About You,” the monogram shop will feature custom embroidery and logos, etched glass and silver jewelry, among other items.

“This is really my daughter’s idea. She loves monogramming,” Lang said. “We wanted something fun to do and decided this was it.”

The hobby likely started when her daughter Miranda was a little girl and Lisa personally monogrammed her preschool nap towels.
With Miranda in college full-time, Lang will be assisted in the new business by Katherine Hughes. Their service will be ideal for companies and organizations, bridal parties or individuals who just want something unique.

“We’ll have hats, jackets, rain jackets, hoodies and a variety of other things or customers can bring in their own items and we can monogram them – such as men’s shirt cuffs or matching robes for bridal parties.”

The shop will be located in the lower level of the building. The second floor will be used by the Langs for personal office space.
With regard to both interior and exterior renovations, the couple utilized nearby companies.

“Several contractors did work and we kept it all local,” Lisa Lang said.

With inspiration from Andy Lang, Chuck Marsh designed and built the balcony. Carl Moore and Rick Gifford were contractors who worked on the interior.

“We tried to keep as much of the original wood in the building as possible, keeping the original floors,” Lisa Lang said. “We also put in a kitchen upstairs and added archways in the walls.”

The new look, which she describes as having a New Orleans or Key West flair, is conducive to crowd flow and Lang said she looks forward to opening the doors to the public.

The Langs purchased the building in February and thereafter began renovation work. It was originally thought that Blooms Florist was moving into the downstairs space, but that plan changed. (Read about Blooms owner Cara Ewald’s new business and its location HERE.)
