Roads Improving; Overnight Hours, Early Morning Nearly Accident Free

By Julie Perine on February 10, 2016 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Unlike Tuesday morning, things were relatively quiet on the police and emergency services front this morning.

There appears to have been no weather-related vehicle accidents reported to Harrison County Bureau of Emergency Services. With the exception of a truck fire in Clarksburg and fallen power lines in Salem, there has been little activity reported.

Director of Bridgeport Emergency Services Laura Pysz said the uneventful morning has a two-fold reason: Road conditions are somewhat better than they were Monday morning and there appears to be less traffic on roadways.

“Roads are clearer than yesterday. They aren’t too bad, especially if you take your time,” she said. “There is some ice under the snow – and a lot of slush everywhere.”

City and state road crews have been busy treating roads.

Owner of Dan Riggs Towing, Dan Riggs said he had considerable less activity this morning. His calls did, however, include the above-mentioned truck fire, which he said was a working snow plow.

A few inches of additional snow feel during the late-evening and overnight hours. There was no school in Harrison County or in any North Central West Virginia county today.

Bridgeport Department of Emergency Services continue to make residents aware of the dangers of shoveling snow. With cold temperatures already detrimental to the heart, the exertion of shoveling compounds those dangers, Pysz said. Shovel small amounts at a time and take frequent breaks, she said.
