Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center Announces Lineup of Movies Scheduled for Months Ahead

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on January 20, 2020 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center has added five new movies to the event schedule aimed at many different types of movie genres as well as community engagement activities.

First up is the animated 1989 Disney classic The Little Mermaid set for Sunday, February 2, 2020 at 3:00 pm. Patrons will get an extra special treat with a Princess Meet & Greet in the ballroom between 2:00 pm (when doors open) and 3:00 pm. In the time-honored tale, a young mermaid named Ariel strikes a deal with a sea witch to become human in order to land the man of her dreams, even though her father has forbidden her to swim to the surface. With relatable themes, great music, and beautifully-colored animations, guests of all ages will love watching this oldie-but-goodie on the big screen again.

In celebration of Black History Month, the following Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 3:00 pm features the period drama film The Help adapted from Kathryn Stockett's 2009 novel of the same name. A débutante (Emma Stone) conducts interviews with black female servants in 1960s Mississippi, which sends her community into an uproar.

Up next is the 1986 American teen comedy now turned cult classic—Ferris Bueller’s Day Off—on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at 7:00 pm.  The event will feature a View & Brew atmosphere with a widened selection of regional craft beers as well as the standard house beer and wines available for an evening suited for a date night or a group of friends to take the day off and enjoy.

“With this movie release we are hoping to cover a wide range of audiences bringing generations of families together to enjoy iconic favorites that never seem to get old,” says Ryan Tolley, Executive Director.

Partnering with local community organization, the Harrison County CASA Program, Inc. for children, the next film is newer (2018) and with very special subject matter—Instant Family. Patrons can enjoy the family comedy centered on the foster care system on Friday, May 1, 2020 at 7:00pm while having the opportunity to chat with CASA representatives in the lobby for more information on fostering.

Lastly, another favorite kids’ film, Disney’s Aladdin (1992) will be shown on Sunday, August 9, 2020 at 3:00pm. A Princess Meet & Greet will take place from 2:00-3:00pm in the ballroom giving fans young and old the chance to snap a pic with the princess before the movie begins.
