As Fairmont State University has been working to expand dining options for students, a ribbon cutting and grand opening was held for Chick-fil-A today.

“This means the opportunity to bring together our Fairmont State University students, faculty and staff. The reaction from students has been overwhelming,” President Dr. Mirta Martin said. “I believe we had a record breaking first day of operation last Thursday.”

Dr. Martin noted new dining options were requested by the students when she arrived in November and the University committed to bringing them just that.

Joe DeSalvo, Aladdin district manager, said this helps to create a great partnership with Aladdin, Fairmont State and Chick-fil-A. Bringing in such a brand will also help with recruitment, retention and overall student satisfaction.

“To accommodate the commuter student population, we have added a full-service Chick-fil-A venue, which is ranked nationally in the top three most popular restaurant chains among college students,” he said.

While ethnic foods are also another top choice, Chilaca opened last month. In a recent release, Fairmont State announced Starbucks will open in the winter.

Both restaurants are open to the public. To welcome the community to campus, Fairmont State University will hold a Chick-fil-A Community Grand Opening and Open House on Saturday, September 22 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. After guests patronize Chick-fil-A, they can enjoy games, giveaways, bounce house, raffles and a free ice cream buffet. The Falcon Center gym and walking track will also be available.

Editor's Note: President Mirta Martin, Chief Financial Officer Christa Kwiatkowski, Freddie the Falcon and Chick-fil-A employees pose for a photo during the grand opening of Fairmont State University’s full service location.
