The Harrison County Board of Education is proud to announce the 2015-2016 high school theatre season.

New this year, and in an attempt to assist high school theatre programs in their publicity efforts, and to ultimately increase attendance at Harrison County high school theatre events, Harrison County Schools, with the help of The Vintage Theatre Company is promoting all high school productions as a season of theatre in Harrison County.

“With the success of last spring’s theatre awards program sponsored by Vintage Theatre Company, it seems like the perfect opportunity to partner with them in advertising theatre events in Harrison County,” said Wendy Imperial, Assistant Superintendant of Harrison County Schools.

The season kicks-off with a production of The Addams Family at Bridgeport High School, October 23-25, 2015 and finishes with the family favorite Annie at South Harrison High School April 21-24, 2016. In between the opening and the closing shows, productions of BOO! 13 Scenes for Halloween and Back to the 80s will be presented at Liberty High School, You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown at Notre Dame High School, The Little Mermaid at Lincoln High School, and Shrek the Musical at Robert C. Byrd High School.

Bridgeport High School will also present a spring production, although the title was not chosen in time for the printing of the seasonal promotional items.

“This season’s theatre shows offer something for everyone,” said Imperial. “Families are encouraged to create a ‘family theatre night’ and attend these popular shows!”

The high school theatre season will conclude with the 2nd Annual Harrison County Theatre Awards on May 1. For the second year in a row, The Vintage Theatre Company, LLC will sponsor the awards show, as well as sponsoring the promotional items for this season.

“It is important for us to make this investment in educational theatre in Harrison County,” said Jason A. Young, VTC’s Founding Producer and Artistic Director. “Hopefully by partnering with the BOE and helping to promote all of the shows in the county we can raise the awareness of the great art that is being made in our schools, and get more people out to see the great shows.”

Harrison County Schools Superintendant Dr. Mark Manchin is excited about the upcoming high school theatre season and on behalf of the Board of Education promises continued support for the performing arts in Harrison County Schools.

“We feel strongly about the performing arts and the outstanding job our students and adults are doing in creating theatre in our county,” said Manchin. “It brings joy to everyone onstage and off. And who knows, someday we may see some of our students on television or even on the Broadway stage.”

Posters featuring the high school theatre season have been printed and are being distributed throughout the county and beyond. Any individual or business interested in assisting with the Harrison County Theatre Awards or that wants a poster to display in their business should contact Young at the Vintage Theatre Company by emailing VintageTheatreCo@gmail.com.

Information about involvement with the individual shows can be obtained by contacting the specific schools or Wendy Imperial at the Harrison County Board of Education.

“At the awards show last year we discovered what a joy it was for all of the high schools to work together and support one another,” said Young. “Presenting the shows as a season and asking all of the schools to support and promote one another is the next logical step in the process.”
