Simpson Elementary Gearing up for Second Annual Race for Education

Simpson Elementary PTA and students are gearing up for the Second Annual Race for Education event. On Tuesday, Sept. 24, preschoolers through fifth graders will slip into their sneakers and proceed on a short nearby route, walking for dollars to support their school.

Simpson Elementary PTA has partnered with and established a Web site through “Race for Education.” Learn more or donate HERE.

Relatives and friends of students, as well as members of the community, can support the school by sponsoring a student walker through a financial donation. Any amount is appreciated.

"Our goal this year is $15,000 for playground equipment upgrades, classroom resources and family fun activities," said Lindsey Lucky of the Simpson Elementary PTA. "It is the only fundraiser for the PTA so it is important to get as much family, friend and community involvement as possible."

Donations are tax-deductible, Lucky said.

"We really like this fundraiser because the kids don't have to sell anything and it promotes healthy living as the students will walk for an hour in support of the race," she said. "Sponsors simply donate a flat amount. Laps are not counted."

If each student raises approximately  $40, the goal will be surpassed.

"Students have the opportunity to win prizes based on the amount of sponsors they have - not the dollar amount they raise," Lucky said. "Prizes include passes for sitting with a friend at lunch, gift cards, iPads and many others!"

The first wave of walkers will be Pre-K students who will step off around 8:30 a.m. Students will follow by grade as the event continues through 2 p.m. The event is a closed one.

Last year's goal was $15,000 and $19,000 was raised, Lucky said.
