Simpson Elementary Pre-K Students Visit Bridgeport Fire Station

By Julie Perine on October 16, 2014 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

This morning, Bridgeport firefighters opened up headquarters to students of Simpson Elementary Pre-K. Three classes were given a grand tour of facilities with firefighters Tyler Peasak, Matt Ogden and Donnie Lindsey leading operations. The tour is one of many taking place this week and next in connection with National Fire Prevention Week. Children were able to see inside fire trucks and other emergency vehicles, including the department's brand new Mobile Command Unit. They were shown how a firefighter suits up and why each element of that uniform is essential. Getting up close and personal with the uniformed firefighters eased fears and students learned that firefighters were, indeed, their friends. After the presentation, the students were quizzed a little on calling 911 when appropriate, alerting firefighters of their location should there be a fire and the importance of working smoke detectors, among other topics of important information. See Gallery I of today's activities below. There are more photos to come.
