For the second consecutive year, the annual Bill Miles Easter Egg Hunt for the Blind was forced to take place inside on the turf field at the Citynet Center at The Bridge Sports Complex but it didn’t damper the smiles on the faces of the participants

Sixteen visually impaired children from Harrison County were on the hunt for easter eggs with built-in beepers and received a prize for each one there ears led them to.

The students also had the opportunity to participate in other Easter-related activities, received easter baskets filled with goodies and were treated to lunch.

The event is a collaborative effort between the Bridgeport Lions Club, Bridgeport Women’s Club, Harrison County Schools and WVU Eye Institute/Children’s Vision Rehabilitation Project.

“It’s amazing to be able to provide an event like this,” Bridgeport Lions Club President John Vash said. “It gives them an opportunity to experience a time-honored tradition and be able to do it on their terms. It’s a great way for our community to give back.”

Vash said plans are already under way to expand the event next year to include visually impaired students from surrounding counties as well as home-schooled children.
