Snow Not to Amount to Much Locally, but Frigid Conditions Coming

A light snow is falling and a light covering is all that is expected, at least in the immediate area. The real weather story today for Bridgeport and surrounding areas, said WDTV Meteorologist Jessica Pash – is the forthcoming frigid conditions.

“Temperatures are expected to drop later this afternoon. Around 2 or 3 p.m., they will drop down close to the 20-degree mark,” she said. “But it will get really windy, so the real feel will be in the middle teens and possibly the lower teens.”

Temperatures will drop throughout the night, leveling off at around 13 degrees. Again, the real feel will be much colder – in the single digits, Pash said.

As far as snow goes, radar indicates that it is falling around us – in Monongalia County, Wetzel County and in counties south of Harrison – but the Clarksburg area will only see about a half inch or an inch at the most. Higher elevations, including Elkins, will see some accumulation.

“We won’t see too much snow out of this system, but here is more on the way,” Pash said. “Wednesday overnight into early Thursday, we may get a little more; nothing major expected at this time, but maybe two or three inches.”
Daytime highs Wednesday will reach into the upper 20s, but winds will die down, so those “real feel” conditions won't be so harsh, Pash said.

Wednesday night will repeat Tuesday night’s pattern; temperatures dropping into the teens.

“On Thursday, we’ll reach the 30s then for the weekend, we’ll get a little sunshine,” Pash said.

Though Friday will bring cloudy skies in the Clarksburg/Bridgeport area and snow to the mountains, things will warm up Saturday and Sunday as we see sunshine and temperatures reaching into perhaps the 40s. Starting into the next work week, temperatures in the lower 40s are expected and no snow, but rather rain.

As for whether we’ll see a white Christmas, it is too early to make that prediction, Pash said.
