In late-June, the local Toys R Us store – as did those across the country – closed its doors. The long-occupied storefront just off Meadowbrook Road and near Meadowbrook Mall was temporarily empty, but now has a new, though temporary tenant.

 

A spin-off store of Party City, locally situate at New Pointe Plaza in Clarksburg, Halloween City has been operating out of the building since the first week of September. As the name implies, the store is a one-stop shop for all things Halloween.

 

“We have costumes – from infants through adults – as well as decorations and inflatables,” said a store spokesman/manager.

 

The spokesman said she hasn’t witnessed a particular trend for Halloween 2018, but that all costumes seem to be selling, from traditional witches and zombies to popular themes such as Marvel superheroes, Disney princesses, Incredibles, PJ Masks and many others. In addition to classic costuming, Halloween City carries inflatable and ride-on costumes, as well as accessories including wigs, masks, tutus and jewelry, props and party supplies.

 

Interior décor, as well as yard and porch decorations, are plentiful for basic Halloween pumpkin patch themes to items to turn one’s home into an all-out haunted house.

 

Store hours vary. This coming week, Halloween City will be open 11 a.m. through 7 p.m. Sunday, 11 a.m. through 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. through 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

 

“The closer we get to Halloween, the hours increase,” the spokesman said.

Halloween City will be open through Nov. 4 and will offer a post-Halloween sale. The store occupies a portion of the former Toys R Us building. Though some Halloween City stores have incorporated pop-up toy stores inside, the local seasonal store does not.
