Sunday's Storm Uneventful in Immediate Area; Some of WV Sees Action

By Julie Perine on July 28, 2014 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Sunday’s threat of severe weather was, at least locally, uneventful. As issued by the National Weather Service, an early-evening tornado watch was later upgraded to a tornado warning for several West Virginia counties, including Harrison. Late last night, flood warnings were posted for many of the same areas. Although Harrison County and surrounding areas did see short-lived heavy rains and some loud claps of thunder, there was were no heavy winds or hail, as had been predicted.

According to the media log for the Harrison County Bureau of Emergency Services, the immediate area saw no downed trees or power lines as a result of yesterday’s storm. Such incidents were reported, however, in Johnstown, Good Hope and Grafton.

Within a broader area, substantial weather including hail, was reported well south of us in Fayette and Boone counties and a potential tornado cloud was spotted in Wetzel County (pictured), as per the National Weather Service.

Bridgeport Coordinator of Emergency Services Laura Pysz said she kept an eye on the flood situation well into the night.

“We were lucky and did not have any issues to report,” she said.

According to FirstEnergy, some power outages occurred in the West Milford area. The next nearest outages occurred east of us in the areas of Philippi and Belington, west of us in the Harrisville, Pennsboro and New Milton areas and north of us in the Marion and Monongalia counties.
