Super Kmart Demolition in Full Steam at Eastpointe as Contractor Begins to Makes Way for New Kroger

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on April 03, 2020 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

While much of the work on the development front in the region has grinded to a halt as the result of the Coronavirus pandemic, contractors are moving ahead at full steam with the demolition of the former Super Kmart building situated at the Eastpointe Plaza in Clarksburg. The plaza, one of the busiest retail shopping areas in the region and the state, sits directly against the Bridgeport City Limits.

Earlier this year, Connect-Bridgeport announced that utility plans were submitted by Kroger to provide water and sewage services to the site for a new Kroger. Bridgeport actually buys its water from Clraksburg and sells it to businesses at Eastpointe from the water tower on the hill directly above the demolition site.

Clarksburg city officials confirmed to Connect-Bridgeport at the time of the utility plans being submitted that they were working with Kroger on the new location. The demolition of the building shows that the project is now in full swing.

Kroger already has a location at the Eastpointe plaza. There is no word on a timeline on the new Kroger or what could potentially go into the current Kroger space.

Bridgeport officials have expressed concern about potential traffic backups. Although, as mentioned, the new building will be in Clarksburg, the traffic from entering the new business will likely impact the intersection of Route 50, Emily Drive and Platinum Drive. The area is already one of the most troublesome intersections in the state based on the number of accidents it sees each year.
