A new music video has been released by Ricky Menendez and Logan Dodd AKA SuperSmash. See "Welcome to the Party (Part 2)" below. Since posted to YouTube yesterday, the video already has several hundred views.

After recording their first official self-titled CD, Dodd and Menendez are traveling between Las Vegas and Santa Monica, Calif., continuing to do their thing.

“We’re just out here making the most elaborate videos we can,” Menendez said. “Of course, the whole time we are trying to keep it within our budget, which is basically non-existent, so we always have to think outside the box.”

The rap artists’ ultimate goal is to make at least five music videos while they are in the area.

“We have been to Hollywood, Santa Monica beach/pier, Lake Havasu in Arizona, Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon, but we stay in Santa Monica when we’re in California,” Menendez said. “We are trying to get everything out of the west that we can for free or at least cheap. There’s no need to pay for a background when we have Hollywood-quality scenery out here for free.”

Some scoff at their definition of work, but it’s not all fun and games, he said.

“Usually it is, but we also have to keep our heads during filming so we can get everything we need,” he said. “We direct, produce, film, edit and write everything for all our videos, so it takes close three hours of filming and an addition couple of weeks of work to get a three-minute video.”

One of the most difficult things, Menendez said, is to get everyone to cooperate long enough to do a scene.

“Sometimes it doesn’t’ come out like you want it to, but I just keep the camera rolling and we use the best of what we get,” he said. “It makes every minute worth it when our friends and family get to see the finished product.”

Knowing that people from “back home” in Bridgeport are enjoying their work means everything, he said.

“There is no better feeling than making your hometown proud,” he said. “Now that we have felt that, we can’t stop now!”
