Surveillance Video May Bring Light to Two Recent "Drive-By Shooting" Incidents

By Julie Perine on August 24, 2015 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

A week ago today, two downtown Bridgeport businesses discovered they had been the targets of property destruction incidents which, for lack of better term, were described as drive-by shootings.

John Belcastro, owner of Third Millennium Marketing, and Dan and Jami Cooper, owners of Cooper Law Offices, arrived at their West Main Street establishments the morning of Aug. 17 to find that a metal nut had been fired through their front glass door and window, respectively. In the Cooper Law Offices case, a TV was destroyed, as well as the large front window.

It was the second week in a row that Belcastro had discovered the destruction of property with no idea who the perpetrator was. Occurring on Aug. 8, that incident involved a metal ball bearing.

The Coopers said they had experienced a similar incident several years ago which remained unsolved. This time, they were better prepared and had a surveillance video system in place. After looking through the footage from the weekend prior to the incident, Dan Cooper said he had discovered something that may be beneficial to Bridgeport Police, which is investigating that incident and the Third Millennium Marketing incident.

Investigating Officer G.T. Collins said he will be viewing that surveillance video soon and hopes it will provide a lead on the case. His department is in the process of acquiring specific video equipment to review the footage.

To Collins’ knowledge, the shooter has not struck again since the Aug. 17 discoveries.

If anyone has any information regarding these incidents, please contact Bridgeport Police Department 304-842-8260 between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
