Teacher Arrested in 2014 for Visit to City to Engage in Sexual Conduct with Minor Gets 46 Months in Prison

Daniel S. McGarvey, 45, a teacher from Uniontown, Pennsylvania, was sentenced today to 46 months in prison after he traveled to West Virginia with the intent to engage in sexual conduct with a minor, United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced.
 
McGarvey used internet-based websites and text messaging to communicate with a minor female who he believed to be 15 years old. In October 2014, he traveled to Bridgeport for the purpose of engaging in sexual conduct with the aforementioned minor female.
 
McGarvey pled guilty in April 2015 to one count of “Travel with Intent to Engage in Illicit Sexual Conduct” following an investigation by the Bridgeport Police Department and the West Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
 
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Vogrin prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
 
U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided.
