Toyota Hydroplanes, Runs Off Interstate

This morning’s heavy rains were to blame for a single vehicle accident which occurred at the 122 mile marker of Interstate 79.

“A silver passenger car was traveling north on I-79 when it hydroplaned and went off the right side of the interstate and into the trees,” said Bridgeport Police Lt. John Post. “There were no injuries, but the vehicle had to be towed. The driver was the only person in the vehicle and he was not hurt.”

Dan Riggs towed the vehicle - Toyota Corolla - from the scene.

The call was dispatched at 10:47 a.m. via Harrison County Bureau of Emergency Services as an accident with injury. Bridgeport Fire and EMS responded, but were returned.

Responders had a difficult time finding the vehicle, Post said.

“The call said the vehicle was in the median, but it was actually on the right-hand side of the road – at the northbound rest area between the two ramps,” Post said. “Just the front end of the vehicle was sticking out of the trees.”
