Two Bridgeport High School students were recently among the winners at the United Technical Center’s annual SkillsUSA State competition.

 

COVID-19 restrictions forced this year’s competition to take place virtually.

 

Dalton Nutter and Tayshaun Douglas were both silver medal winners. Nutter was a participant in the Power Sports and Equipment program. Douglas competed in the computer systems program.

 

UTC also had winners in electrical, machine tool and auto tech programs.

 

Liberty High School had a pair of students, Garrett Watson (gold medal) and Derek Gifford (silver medal), honored.

 

Other UTC students honored were Grafton’s Caden Exline, the Doddridge County High School duo of Joe Powers and Dalton McCombs and adult students Dalton Ash, Chase Eubank, Matthew Fox and Mason Kerns.

 

SkillsUSA is a national career technical student organization that connects students, teacher and industry to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel by providing educational programs, events and competitions that support career and technical education in the nation’s classrooms.

 

UTC has also announced that its annual car show will take place on Sunday, May 16. The event is open to the public and will showcase a variety of antique cars. The school will also be raffling off a 1979 Kawasaki SR650 motorcycle at the event.

 

Cost to enter the event is $5.00 per ticket and all proceeds will be used to go toward future SkillsUSA competitions.
