Firefighters from Bridgeport, Anmoore, Nutter Fort and Stonewood battled a Thursday afternoon structure fire near Anmoore; a fire which destroyed a garage and damaged several nearby vehicles.

The call was dispatched at 2:07 p.m., indicating a working structure fire on Coplin Run Road in Green Valley.  Bridgeport Fire Chief Phil Hart said two individuals – who were working on a car in the garage when the fire broke out - were fortunate to escape the blaze in the nick of time. They were uninjured.

“They were working on a car in the garage when a gas tank leaked to the floor,” Hart said. “They had a heater on and the propane tank ignited the fumes.”

The fire could have easily spread to three nearby out buildings, but it was contained, Hart said. It took about 40 minutes to get the blaze under control, but firefighters worked on location for a total of three and a half hours.

“It was hard to extinguish due to so much debris,” Hart said.

The garage was free standing; not attached to a home. No firefighters were injured.

“There were no injuries at all on the scene and no hospital transports,” Hart said.
