Veena Raol-Bass, clarinetist, was also selected for the All-State Band, but was unable to participate.
The West Virginia Middle School All-State Band, now in its second year, performed in Charleston on March 7 as part of the West Virginia Music Educators Association Conference. The honor ensemble, which brings together the most skilled middle school musicians from across the state, was led by guest conductor Rachel Maxwell from Oswego, Illinois.
For Mitchell and Whitescarver, the experience was both exciting and inspiring. “It was amazing to play alongside so many talented musicians and learn from such a great conductor,” said Whitescarver. Mitchell added, “Being part of this honor band has made me even more passionate about music.”
Their performance comes at a fitting time, as March is Music In Our Schools Month, a national celebration recognizing the importance of music education in students’ lives. Their achievement highlights the strength of Bridgeport Middle School’s music program and the dedication of its young musicians.
The West Virginia Middle School All-State Band continues to grow, offering students the opportunity to perform at a high level and connect with others who share their passion. Congratulations on this outstanding accomplishment!
