Two-Vehicle Crash on Route 76 Lake Ridge Sends Two to Hospital; Takes Out Window of Home

Just before 4 p.m. Monday, two vehicles crashed on Route 76, Lake Ridge, just outside of Bridgeport.
According to Sgt. Robert Titchenal of the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, the accident occurred when a green Buick was traveling west on Rt. 76 and a red Chevrolet pick-up was traveling east.
“It appears that the Buick crossed the center line, causing the pickup truck to swerve to the left, trying to miss hitting the Buick head-on, then a sideswipe impact occurred between the vehicles,” Titchenal said.
The pickup landed in a ditch in an embankment on the westbound side of the roadway.
“The Buick continued, crossing a little ditch then into a yard where two subjects were ejected and debris came off the vehicle and struck a house, causing damage to the residence,” Titchenal said. “The car came to rest in the driveway area of the house.”
The two individuals ejected from the car, both passengers, were transported to United Hospital; one by Flemington Fire/EMS and one by Bridgeport Fire/EMS, said Bridgeport Fire Lt. Keith Linger. Their condition is not known at this time.
Titchenal said the Buick was occupied by four individuals.
“The other two signed off and the driver of the truck signed off. He didn’t appear to be injured,” Titchenal said.
The house that was struck by debris was occupied at the time.
“She was lucky. She was in the kitchen when the debris struck the living room area and blew interior debris around the room,” Titchenal said.
The driver of the Buick was taken into custody with suspected DUI. With one lane of traffic open, both eastbound and westbound traffic was affected until about 5:30 p.m. when the scene was cleared. The Buick was cleared from the scene by Dan Riggs Towing.
The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident.
