It’s band camp time.

 

From July 28 through Aug. 1 and Aug. 4 through Aug. 8, members of the 2014-2015 Bridgeport High School Marching Band will be practicing and perfecting their football field show.

 

On the last day of camp, the band will provide the public with a sneak peek of that performance, under the direction of Drum Major Ryan Osborn.

 

Held at BHS, the band camp will run 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Organization of the two-week long camp has been ongoing for weeks.

 

Angel Stutler, whose son Tristen is a bass drum player, has coordinated lunch and other refreshments for the group.

 

“We’ll have lunch at noon and popsicle break at 10 a.m. and probably water breaks in between,” she said.

 

On the lunch menu, Stutler said, are hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, pepperoni rolls, subs and pizza, with chips, fresh fruit and a variety of other food items on the side.

 

“Parents are providing the food. We put the request out there and they have responded very well,” she said.

 

Earlier this week, 59 band members were fitted for uniforms.

 

“We have the uniforms in the band room already,” Stutler said. “The kids just come in and get fitted, then they have to be hemmed up adjusted.”

 

Additional band students are expected to show up for the camp. Members of the BHS drumline and other percussionists held a camp this week to get a jump start on the performance season.

 

Under the direction of the BHS Band Patrons, a number of fundraisers help the band meet its lofty budget for the year. A new fundraiser this year is the sale of BHS Band miniature flags. They can be purchased during band camp at the BHS band room or orders can be placed through any BHS Band member or by contacting Lula Malenich at 304-641-5608 or lula.malenich@gmail.com. 

 

The cost per flag is $20.
