The West Virginia Perinatal Partnership recently presented United Hospital Center (UHC) with the First Baby Initiative for having a 10 percent or greater reduction in primary C-section rates among first time mothers 2009-2014 (primary, nulliparous, singleton births with vertex presentation).

UHC received the West Virginia Perinatal Partnership certificate of recognition for the hospital’s steadfast efforts to improve the health of West Virginia mothers and babies.

“This recognition speaks to the high quality of services UHC delivers at the community level,” said Dr. Mark Povroznik, vice president of quality improvement and chief quality officer at UHC.  “Our focus is on quality care for our patients and their families, and that philosophy is what has led UHC to be ranked as a top hospital in West Virginia.”

The hospital is one of only five hospitals in West Virginia to receive this distinction.  This state wide initiative aims to reduce by 20 percent the rate of elective inductions prior to 39 and 41 weeks.
