A team of second year students from United Technical Center’s Drafting Technology program have been chosen as one of the three finalists in the West Virginia Department of Education’s JourneyUP Challenge.  The challenge was open to career and technical education students from across the state that were either in a drafting or a business/marketing Simulated Workplace Company.

The students were given the task of developing plans to transform the former Coca-Cola manufacturing facility, located in Huntington into a thriving and productive space in order to revitalize the Huntington community.  Along with creating the renovation plans, business name, and logo, the students also developed a business and marketing plan for the new company.

Team members include Matthew Gump, Charles Allen, Christian Spencer, Samuel Drake of Bridgeport High School, and Dakota Dellinger.  According to Vanessa Haymond, UTC’s drafting instructor, the team will travel to Charleston on Friday, January 24 to present their final proposal in front of the selection committee.

The winning team will be awarded a grant from the WVDE to be used within their CTE program.
