Bridgeport Fire Department and others from the area were alerted to North Central West Virginia Airport this evening for potential landing difficulties. An inbound aircraft had reported engine difficulties and the units – including those from Anmoore, Stonewood and Nutter Fort – were on standby. The call was dispatched via Harrison County Emergency Services at 6:04 p.m. At approximately 6:30 p.m., the plane landed safely.

According to Shawn Long of NCWV airport operations, the aircraft was a United Express passenger plane.

“I’m not sure where it departed from, but it was going to Dayton, Ohio,” he said. “While in the air, one engine went out and they thought there was a possible engine fire, so it diverted here and declared an emergency landing. In the end, it landed safely.”

There were 49 adult passengers, one child and a crew of three on board, Long said.

In addition to the fire units mentioned above, the airport’s in-house fire crew was also on alert.
