Variety of Activities Planned for Second Annual NCWV Girls in Aviation Day; Event Set for Sept. 23

Aerospace partners from across the region are coming together to host the second annual North Central West Virginia Girls in Aviation Day event on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Robert C. Byrd National Aerospace Education Center, located at 1050 East Benedum Industrial Drive in Bridgeport.
 
The event is geared toward middle and high school age girls. However, it is open to the public and all ages and genders are welcome. Attendees under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
 
There will be a variety of hands-on activities available, as well as opportunities to meet people representing some of the many different careers in the aviation industry. Activities include flight simulators, static display of aircraft, a dress-up aviation photo booth, drones, and more.
 
Participating education and business partners include Association for Women In Aviation Maintenance, Aurora Flight Sciences – A Boeing Company, Engine Management Specialist, Engine & Airframe Solutions Worldwide LLC, Fairmont State University, Harrison County Academy of Aviation Technology, Harrison County Economic Development Corporation, HQ Aero, Katherine Johnson NASA IV&V Education Resource Center, NASA Space Grant Consortium, MHIRJ Aviation, North Central West Virginia Airport, NorthStar Technologies LLC, Pierpont Community & Technical College, Pratt & Whitney, The Thrasher Group, WV Civil Air Patrol, West Virginia University, Women In Aviation International, WV Army National Guard, WYK, and others.
 
Girls in Aviation Day was started by the Women in Aviation International organization in 2015 and is celebrated annually in late September across the globe. This will be the second year that an associated event is being held in North Central West Virginia.
