WDTV reported 911 officials say a vehicle hit a utility pole on South Bypass Road then caught on fire on Friday evening in Harrison County, which looks to be a potential cause of the power outage at the Bridgeport-Robery C. Byrd game that same evening.

The incident took place just before 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22. As a result, Route 98 was temporarily closed to traffic with drivers being redirected to Chestnut Street.

According to a reporter at the scene, the road block was very close to the entrance of Robert C. Byrd High School.

Officials could not confirm that the power outage at the stadium was directly related to the crash. The stadium lights at the football game were restored in less than 20 minutes.

The Clarksburg Police Department is investigating the crash. The Clarksburg Fire Department, Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, Stonewood Police Department and Harrison County EMS also responded to the scene.

No injuries were reported.
