Bridgeport Fire Department responded to a power line fire at 11:34 a.m. Wednesday on North Virginia Avenue.

“It was up behind Rite Aid. We arrived and called the power company,” said Chief Phil Hart.

The fire was extinguished quickly, but the incident left many along North Virginia Avenue and Main Street without power. Some customers have been restored, but as of 1:15 p.m., the Main Street fire station was still on backup power.

Bridgeport Fire Department was also dispatched to North Central West Virginia Airport late this morning. An alert had gone out that a plane was having trouble and may have a difficult landing. The plane landed without incident and the fire department was not needed. They were returned.
