West Virginia Wesleyan College will host the annual Family Weekend on September 22-24 for families of Wesleyan students to experience campus with an array of activities. 

 

On Friday, parents are invited to participate in community-service opportunities Bobcats for Books and Spread the Love.  Families are asked to donate new or gently used children’s books to fill one of the county’s Little Free Libraries.  Families are also asked to help support local food pantries by donating a jar or two of peanut butter for the Spread the Love campaign. 

 

Friday evening, Wesleyan students will showcase their many talents at the Wesleyan’s Got Talent at 8 p.m. in the Culpepper Auditorium in the Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing Arts. The audience will help pick a winner.

 

On Saturday, families will have a number of memorable activities from which to choose.  In addition to a special glass tour and the continued community service opportunities, new President Joel Thierstein invites all families to join them for informal conversations and continental breakfast in the French A. See Dining Center at 8:45 a.m.  For a glimpse into history through the works of a master artisan, students and parents can travel to Ron Hinkle Glass for special tours on Saturday. Families will also have the opportunity to have digital caricatures created on the Benedum Campus Center Plaza from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. 

 

The Bobcat Den will also be open for business between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday.  The weekend continues with a tailgate lunch in the French A. See Dining Center. The softball team will hold an Orange & Black scrimmage at 11 a.m., and an alumni softball game will begin at 3 p.m. on the Culpepper Softball field. Cheer on the 2-0 Bobcat football team as they take the field against Urbana at 1 p.m.  At 7 p.m., the women’s soccer team will pay against Wheeling Jesuit on the Culpepper Soccer Field.

 

Experience a Culinary Trip to Korea by Chef Patrick of Aladdin Food Services at 6 p.m. in the Benedum Campus Center. He will demonstrate the creation of delicious entrees and will also discuss the history of these culinary masterpieces. After dinner, travel back in time with the American Shakespeare Center’s performance of the Taming of the Shrew at 8:30 p.m. in the Culpepper Auditorium of the Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing Arts.

 

On Sunday, Rev. Ken Fizer, father of Wesleyan senior Sara Fizer, will serve as guest speaker for the Ecumenical Chapel service.  Rev. Fizer is the pastor of William Watters/Ebenezer Parish United Methodist Church in Jarrisville/Fallston, MD. Close out a great Family Weekend by grabbing a bite to eat during brunch at 11 a.m. in the French A. See Dining Center. After brunch, cheer on the men’s soccer team versus Wheeling Jesuit at 1 p.m. at Culpepper Soccer Field.
