Winter Storm Watch Changed to Winter Weather Advisory; Expect Snow-Covered, Slippery Roads and Limited Visibility by Morning

A winter storm watch has been changed to a winter weather advisory which remains in effect through 11 p.m. Wednesday. A winter weather advisory, said Director of Emergency Services Laura Pysz, means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow-covered, slippery roads and limited visibility for Wednesday morning’s commute. The approaching wet, heavy snow also has potential for bringing down trees and power lines, resulting in power outages.

The National Weather Service forecasts about two inches of new-fallen snow for the Bridgeport/Clarksburg area, but potential bands of snowfall can result in higher snowfall amounts in localized spots. Precipitation – in the form of snow, sleet and/or ice – is expected to start around midnight in the immediate area.

Heaviest amounts of snowfall – potentially six to 10 inches - are expected in the mountains and eastern panhandle.

Cold temperatures Thursday morning have flash freeze potential. Icy roads could develop as temperatures fall below freezing, along with wet surfaces.
