In its 6th year at Bridgeport Cemetery, Wreaths Across America will honor 1,675 veterans at a 12 p.m. wreath laying ceremony scheduled for Dec. 18.

This year, Team Bridgeport met its goal to provide a wreath for all 1,675 veterans. Again, the community has been very generous and supportive of the Wreaths Across America program, by purchasing wreaths and supporting fundraisers, including the Hometown Hero Gnome fundraiser – new to this year. It’s a program that means much to this community and its families, organizer Christa Parker said.

“Wreaths Across America is important because every fallen veteran deserves to be remembered for fighting for us. It’s important that they not be forgotten,” she said. “And it’s important to teach our children that our veterans are the heroes.”

The ceremony will again be emceed by Brad Ford.
“Everyone is welcome. Masks are not required, but encouraged,” Parker said.

Providing special music will be Emma Guthall. Parker is still looking for soldiers to assist with the ceremony, as well as a trumpet player. She can be reached at 304-669-9804 (cell) or 304-842-2641 (Bridgeport Cemetery).

Following the ceremony, hot chocolate, coffee and refreshments will be offered.

As always, names of veterans who community members wish to honor will be called out during the ceremony. Anyone who would still like to place a request can contact Parker by Nov. 30.

The wreaths will be delivered Friday, Dec. 17. Again, the community is invited and encouraged to line the route to welcome them. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
