Off the Shelf: A Key Addition to Bridgeport's Library

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on September 21, 2022 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

We’re excited to announce a new staff member at the Bridgeport Public Library! Shannon Ruggieri is our new Information Services Librarian. She is here to help patrons with a variety of technology questions whether it is adding WVDELI/Libby to their mobile device, navigating computers, or helping piece together one’s family tree.

Shannon is especially excited about sharing our wide variety of eResources through which patrons can access eBooks and audiobooks, stream music, watch movies and TV shows, conduct genealogy research, download legal forms, learn a new language, and read from a large collection of online magazines.  One of her favorite resources is our set of online learning platforms. As a homeschool parent, she utilizes these for research, printing off worksheets, and skill-building.  Whether you are a student, teacher, or lifelong learner, we have free educational resources and continuing education classes available just by having a library card!

Additionally, Shannon’s role will include working on improving and increasing signage throughout the library, updating policies, contributing content to social media, and managing the print and digital collection to keep it relevant and fresh.  She will also be providing research workshops to the West Virginia Junior College and hopes to expand this to other locations where she can provide this service.

For the past five years, Shannon previously worked at the Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library, most currently, as Head of Programs & Marketing. She is excited about the West Virginia LibShare Consortium between Bridgeport Public Library, Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library, and Marion County Public Library System. Not only do we share a catalog with a transit van delivering materials between the libraries twice a week, but we also partner together for Dial-A-Story, share some eResources, and work closely together on other projects and programs. Collaboration is the key to serving patrons in the best possible way!

Shannon identifies as a book addict with her favorites being historical fiction and classics. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and an Associate’s Degree in Sign Language Interpreting both from Fairmont State College in 2000.  She is married to Joe and has 4 children between them: Audrey, Landon, Amanda, and Jennifer.  In October, she will begin offering American Sign Language classes once a month at the library for anyone who would like to build their signing skills.  You can sign up to register for this program and others by visiting bplwv.org/events.  Remember to stop by or call Shannon for your technology needs at 304-842-8248.
