Off the Shelf: A Publication Positive Due to Pandemic

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on June 30, 2021 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

It is hard to recognize that half of 2021 is over; unlike last year that seemed to be endless, 2021 is just flying along.  Because of the pandemic, publishers postponed loads of their scheduled releases in 2020, so one of the positive side effects is an onslaught of new books.  July is going to be a very plush month just full of suggestions for your TBR or to take along on your long-postponed vacation.

BookPage is a free handout available at the library; every month it has articles and reviews of the top books being published that month.  If you are one of those readers who don’t follow book reviews or entertainment media, BookPage is a great way to keep up.  We usually have older copies available, so they are a really handy place to browse for reading choices and the added advantage of the older editions is that the books are often sitting on the shelves just waiting for their reader.

The July BookPage has an article on Marie Benedict’s new book, “The Personal Librarian,” with Victoria Christopher Murray.  It is about financier J. P. Morgan’s librarian who also happened to be a black woman passing for white.  She ran his library for over 40 years and helped amass one of the great collections.

There are columns on books for book clubs, audio selections, mysteries set in the 1920s, Mad Bad Scientists, Whodunit, and Middle Grade Fantasies.  There are articles on Megan Miranda about her newest book, “Such a Quiet Place,” Jason Mott on his novel, “Hell of a Book,” and S. A. Cosby on his newest thriller, “Razorblade Tears.”  There is also an article on three psychological thrillers enticingly titled “Dead Girls, Dream Girls and Final Girls.”

BookPage is an extremely useful guide to what are the most popular books of the month.  Be sure to pick up a copy when you are in the library.

The Library will be closed on Monday, July 5th for the 4th of July holiday.
