Off the Shelf: Book Sale to Continue through Summer, Upcoming Closure, Programs and Hours of Operation

By Sharon Saye on June 16, 2021 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

We had stacks of books left over after the book sale and decided to continue it throughout the summer on tables in the hallway.  Prices will be posted on the wall above the tables; please take your selections to either of the circulation desks to pay.  We will also continue taking donations of books; just please limit them to a bag or box at a time.  We are already limited on space.

The library will be closed on June 21st for West Virginia Day.  The online services are still available; so, from a certain point of view, the library is never closed.

As regards the online services, Overdrive, the company that provides the platform for the WVDELI, is holding a month-long audiobook sale.  Since audiobooks are rather expensive even in digital form, ranging from $40 to $120 per title, we like to take advantage of their annual June sale.  So, audiobook listeners please keep your eyes on the WVDELI pages as dozens of new selections will be appearing during the month.

Programming is slowly starting back up; we are currently clearing out the conference room from the book sale and planning our activity schedule.  Summer Reading Programs are up and going and Story Hour continues Wednesdays at noon.

The mystery book club, Read in Red, is planning on meeting in person again although socially distanced as is Tea and Talk.  Just keep on the lookout for the monthly programming schedules that will be available online.

I have been asked when the library’s hours will return to normal; unfortunately, they must stay at their current level.  The library lost six employees due to retirement or new jobs and has only been able to replace one so far.  Until we get the staff back to normal levels, we can’t expand our hours.  We are working hard on that, but if you have been watching any news reports, you know that there are many more jobs than people available.  But as other things slowly return to normal, I am sure that will as well.
