Off the Shelf: Decking the Library's Halls

By Sharon Saye on December 10, 2014 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The library is quite splendid this holiday season due to the hard work of quite a few people.  Christmas arrived last week with the Woman’s Club of Bridgeport decorating the entryways with bright seasonal trees.  The Christmas tree near the front door is a pre-lit, 7 and a half foot tall and decorated entirely in gold, glass, and silver ornaments.  This makes the entrance quite spectacular.

They have also worked the tree in the children’s section with snowmen, candy canes and rag dolls that brightened that section as well.  This annual donation to the community and its library is much appreciated by patrons and staff.  Special thanks go to all the women involved.

The Bridgeport Garden Club decorated two additional Christmas trees to make the library even more festive.  The one in the young adult area of the library is brand new with glittering blue and purple ornaments.  The other tree is near the front windows by the computers and is of Scandinavian origin.  It boasts assorted wooden ornaments with rough painting in red, green and yellow, and small bouquets of natural materials.  Once again thanks to all the members of the Garden Club who worked on these trees.

Without the help of all these wonderful people, the library would still be bright, but not quite so sparkly this holiday season.  Thank you again for all your hard work.

City facilities including the library will be closing early on December 23rd at noon for the City Christmas party.  The library will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  Regular library hours resume on December 26th from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and noon until 5 p.m. on Saturdays.  The City will be closed on New Year’s Day and will re-open on January 2nd when offices resume their regular hours.
