Off the Shelf: Read to Rhythm

By Sharon Saye on May 20, 2015 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The library invites all children to participate in this year’s Summer Reading.  “Read to the Rhythm” is this year’s reading and programming theme.   Activities will revolve around music, sound, and artistic expression.  Programs for children are designed for participants between the ages of four and twelve.

Registration begins on Monday, June 1, 2015 and must be done in person at the library.  Registered participants receive a programming packet that includes: recommended reads, reading log, independent activities, and a calendar of events.

Summer reading programs are offered Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, Thursday evenings, and Friday afternoons.  All are welcome to attend the annual kickoff event on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 6:00 p.m.  The finale will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 6:00 p.m.

The library also offers Summer Reading for teens and adults with weekly beach bag prizes.

Please visit the library to register, participate, learn, and connect with your community through music.

Set up for our annual book sale begins the last week of May.  We will still be accepting donations even during the week of the book sale.  The actual book sale is scheduled for the first week of June from the 1st through the 6th.  Saturday is bag day at $1 per bag; the library will provide the bags.

More details about the hours and prices will be available in next week’s column.

The library will be closed this Saturday, May 23rd, and Monday, May 25th, for the Memorial Day holiday.
