Off the Shelf: Renovations Continue but the Library Starting to Look Brand New

By Sharon Saye on August 29, 2018 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The library is much brighter as the new lighting is now installed in the front and center.  Everyone is commenting on how dim things were before, now that we can really see.

The new carpeting and flooring also have been installed for over half of the library and they are finishing the lighting and ceilings in the center.  Visitors must think everything is very crowded since we have had to move all the tables and chairs from the center section to the front and back.

Finding books has been a challenge as well since we have had to shift collections around so that the shelving could be moved.  This means that virtually every book cart and many tables have been loaded with books.  Since the center section is also getting more electrical outlets some shelves have had to be unloaded in the fiction.  They are on book carts in various places.

So, disorder still reigns at the library, but we are getting closer to the end.  The next section to be disrupted will be the back section where the circulation desk sits.  For at least a part of the time, the Internet computers will be down, but there are other computers in the front to access the Internet.

The back circulation desk will be hampered when they work on the ceiling, and users will have to check out at the front.  This is scheduled for the next few weeks.

The children’s area is getting new lighting as well during this period, but there should be only minor disruption there.  The last sections are the hallways and the conference room.  The end is in sight and hopefully all the construction and confusion will be over by early October.  Fall may very well be our favorite season this year.

The library has still been ordering new books, but with all the shifting and moving, it is hard to tell.  For those who use the WVDELI, we have been adding extra copies to help make things easier.  And don’t forget all of our digital services from Mango Languages to Universal Class to Indieflix to Freegal are available 24/7 and not impacted by ceiling tiles or lighting fixtures.
