Off the Shelf: Tax Forms and Upcoming Events at the Bridgeport Public Library

By Sharon Saye on January 18, 2017 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

For all those anxiously waiting, tax forms are here.  We have several boxes of West Virginia state tax form booklets.  West Virginia includes the most needed forms and instructions in one booklet.

Federal tax forms including 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ are also here; the amount is limited so please restrict yourself to one form.  The instruction books have not yet arrived, but should be here shortly.  The IRS is only sending the basic form and instruction books; if you need additional forms or schedules, you need to go online to the IRS site and print them out.  You can do this on the library’s public access computers, but there is a charge of $ .10 per page.

The IRS is sending only limited amounts of forms and re-ordering can take some time, so our advice is not to assume that the forms will still be available in April.  So for all those procrastinators, waiting until April 14th to start your income tax is a very bad idea.

Programs continue at the library throughout the month of January.  A schedule is available online at www.bridgeportwv.com, then click library under departments.

Story Hour is every Friday at 10:30 a.m. for children under the age of three.  Programs for teens are held on Monday nights.  On January 23rd from 5:30-8 p.m., teens between ages 13-18 can watch the classic movie, “Jaws.”  Pizza and refreshments will be provided.  On Monday, January 30th from 6-8 p.m., teens will be playing the favorite board game, “Clue.”

Adult fans of PBS can talk about the concluding episode of “Sherlock” on January 17th at noon, and at one p.m. can begin their discussions of “Victoria.”  Tea & Talk continues every Monday at 1 p.m.  Participants are asked to bring a bag lunch; the library will provide tea.

Charlotte Snead will celebrate her birthday with a special book signing event at the library.  Her new book, “A Place to Live,” will be available for purchase as well as her previous publications.

Book Talk meets on Wednesday, January 18th at 4 p.m.  This month’s book is “The Readers of Broken Wheel” by Katarina Bivald.  Next month’s book is “The Kitchen House” and will be available at the meeting.  The book group is open to the public; if you are interested just contact the library.

Our regular monthly eReader Workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, January 24th at 2 p.m.  Registration is required.  Just bring your device and librarians will offer guidance and instruction to those interested in downloading eBooks, eAudiobooks, and digital magazines.
The Silver Screeners will be watching “The Dressmaker,” on Friday, January 27th from 5:30 to 8 p.m.  This movie starring Kate Winslet is the story of a glamorous woman who returns to her small town in rural Australia.  With her sewing machine and haute couture style, she transforms the women and exacts sweet revenge on those who did her wrong.

And on Saturday, January 28th at 1 p.m., the library is holding a Super Bowl Appetizer Recipe Swap.  Bring your favorite dish and/or appetizer recipe to share with your community.  This event is the perfect preparation for the upcoming game.
